C6H14 Isomers

Share this post on:

Hexane (C6H14) is an organic compound, a straight-chain alkane with six carbon atoms. There are five C6H14 isomers with the same molecular formula, C6H14, and the same molecular weight, 86.

Structural Isomers with the Molecular Formula C6H14

  • n-exane : CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH3
  • 2-methylpentane : CH3CH(CH3)CH2CH2CH3
  • 3-methylpentane : CH3CH2CH(CH3)CH2CH3
  • 2,3-dimethylbutane : (CH3)2CHCH(CH3)2
  • 2,2-dimethylbutane : (CH3)3CCH2CH3

What are Isomers?

Isomerism refers to the existence of molecules that have the same number of atoms of the same type (and thus the same formula) but differ in chemical and physical properties.
