Ancient Assyrian Relics Emerge from Northern Iraq

What's Insight

In an exciting turn of events, Italian archaeologists, together with Iraqi counterparts, have brought to light invaluable Assyrian relics in Nineveh, Iraq.

This significant discovery, announced on October 8, 2023, by the General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage in Iraq, pulls back the curtains on the intricate history of the Assyrian civilization.

The focal point of this find was in Tell Qoyunjıq, where a mud brick-constructed administrative building emerged, dating back to the modern Assyrian era (20th century BC to 7th century BC)

Further magnifying the significance of this discovery are the 120 clay tablets laden with literary texts. These texts are anticipated to provide rare insights into Assyrian language, literature, and administrative norms.

Essentially, they are windows to the communication and day-to-day operations of the modern Assyrian era.

Such archaeological feats  highlight the  indomitable spirit of collaboration and the importance of  safeguarding our global heritage.

The artefacts from Nineveh offer an unparalleled view into the ancient Assyrian world, enriching our understanding of their culture, language, and way of life.
