Calcium chloride is utilized in a range of applications, such as brine for refrigeration facilities, road ice and dust control, and cement. It may be synthesized directly from limestone, but it is also mass-produced as a byproduct of the Solvay process. Because of its hygroscopic nature, it must be kept in tightly sealed containers.
